Bullies are everywhere. They are in schools, neighborhoods, classes, and just about everywhere you can think of. I was bullied for five years straight. I was teased, made fun of, and I would go and cry in the school bathrooms every day. These bullies, in particular, I thought were better than me; better at sports, education, and music. I was just the loser kid who no one wanted to sit with cause I was weird. But my perception changed when I realized why they act this way.

Why do bullies act the way they act? According to kidshealth.org, bullies may be looking for popularity or attention, but I believe this is not always the case. Bullies could have been victimized by certain circumstances themselves, causing them to fuel up with anger and fuel up with sadness. They may not know how to express the pain and thus throw all the suppressed emotions at others, such as the people they think can be an easy target to being victimized and have those emotions of sadness.

Speaking from my personal experience, I think bullying can lead to depression and cause extreme sadness. It can lead to suicidal thoughts and other emotions, such as anger and hate. But how do we stop bullying as a whole? We can’t. The answer lies in taking care of our mental health to prevent bullying and fight against the stigma that causes the emotions associated with bullying and depression, not to mention anxiety. We can prevent it but not stop it as a whole.

Bullies usually have an attack on their mental health and feel these waves of sadness, hate, jealousy, and anger. Again, all they want is to make others feel the way they’re feeling in order to not be the only ones that feel that way.
