Frequently Asked Questions

What is TeenOpinions.org?

TeenOpinions.org is a website created by teens that allows teens all over the world to post their opinions on any topic of their choice. We believe each of us has a lot to say, and the world can certainly use teens to demonstrate that we respect our diversity and our differences in opinion. We also believe writing is a life skill and there is no better way to improve our writing but to put pen to paper and just write ;-).

How is TeenOpinions.org different?

TeenOpinions.org is not an essay contest or competition where teens are competing to get their best work published. Our mission is to help get every submission published even if it means having a teen author work offline on a draft for feedback and iterations with our editorial advisors.

TeenOpinions.org is not a forum for debating ideas. We leave that to the well established social media sites. Comments will always be moderated on our site so as to keep TeenOpinions.org a welcoming and encouraging place for teens to share their opinions. We allow rating of posts but urge teens to be encouraging to your peer.

TeenOpinions.org does not plan to place ads for businesses to advertise programs that appeal to the teen demographic. We are self-funded from our hard earned scholarships for now!

Where can I get inspirations for a topic? I know I have a lot to say, but don’t know what will make a good topic.

Check out our ideas page that lists categories and topics. We find online galleries of work from National Scholastic Writing & Awards, and TeenInk.com inspiring as well. You can find links to these in our Guidelines &Tips page. However, note that plagiarism is a big no-no, whether intentional or accidental. Make sure to not use any aspects of someone else’s writing unless you are citing them.

Do you use plagiarism checkers?

Yes, we run a plagiarism checker before submission. However, if any of our readers find any issues with the posts, we urge you to contact us immediately. As much as our mission is to have our peers share their opinions respectfully while getting over any reluctance in writing, we believe respecting others work comes foremost and any form of plagiarism is against our principles.

Do opinions only have to be about serious life-changing, earth shattering social and political topics, or can they be about fun movie reviews or books?

Good news! Topics can be anything we want them to be! Although we would love to hear about global issues spanning social, political, scientific issues including any causes that you are advocating for and why, we welcome any topic that you have an opinion on. You are welcome to write reviews on movies, literary works, art works, etc. Our mission is to have fun with writing and sharing our ideas with peers world-wide. No topic is off limits unless of course it is incendiary and violates common sense principles of decorum.

Can I join TeenOpinions.org team? I don’t have any money to donate though.

Yes! We are not a closed group or secret society. In fact, we have a ton of work and can use help in various areas. If you are a teen willing to roll up your sleeves, we would love to hear from you. If you are an adult, we can use help in our site development, advisory, and outreach roles. Currently, only parents of authors and teachers can be part of the team due to teen safety considerations.

I’m not thirteen yet. Can I still post?

You can post as a guest submitter with parent approval. One of the founders of TeenOpinions.org is in fact a tween in seventh grade, so we can totally understand the enthusiasm and there is no reason to curb writing as long as your submission is through your parent.
